Hi! My name is Matt Phillip and thanks for checking out this site. A little about me...
In May 2024, and at 59 years of age, I suffered a sudden aortic dissection that cut blood flow to my leg and kidneys, leading to four major surgeries, kidney failure, dialysis, and a five-week hospital stay. Though left with lasting damage and reduced kidney function, I gradually recovered, and 6 months later returned to part-time work.
But the experience had a profound effect on my outlook, giving a renewed sense of gratitude, purpose and a new focus on my life direction. To coin a phrase, I found out first hand that life is short. And unpredictable.
A large part of this "renewal" has been to return to my long buried musical and lyrical creativity, and my energies have now re-focused into this "Matt Phillip Collective" songwriting project.
It's actually the culmination of over 40 years of original lyrics and songwriting concepts, combining those ideas with new technologies (including AI) to produce a range of hit-worthy contemporary song packages in a range of musical styles.
I am well aware of the controversies around AI in traditional musical circles, but in my situation I have found it to be the perfect partnership for my creativity. At this point, I am not a performer (however, I am working on refining these skills!), but am primarily a lyricist and songwriter, and using AI technology is the best way for me to complete and produce my songwriting, bringing my thoughts, insights and messages to a wider audience that would have been impossible to reach otherwise.

AI in music is controversial. We get it. Some of the arguments are completely valid around the "slop" that is produced by some who strive to cheat the system for their own dubious gain. The industry is cracking down - and rightly so.
So we want to be upfront and completely transparent on how, where, and why AI is incorporated into what we bring to you.
Firstly, all Matt Phillip's songs are lyrically hand written - from scratch, and with no technological intervention whatsoever. No chat gpt. No AI "slop". It's all our own original thoughts, concepts, rhymes and structure. 100%.
Where AI is used is as a songwriting "collaborator", interpreting Matt's vision of a song - the structure of the lyric, it's mood, it's genre - and playing musical matchmaker to the message the lyric conveys.
Unlike traditional songwriting - where the lyric is often built around an initial musical idea - here the lyric comes first. It is what drives the music, and sets the direction that the song is going to take.
And frankly, for some songs, it takes a lot revising, editing, reformatting and rewriting before we're fully satisfied with the end result!
Lastly, we then generally use AI to produce the completed "demo" of the song. Full production, instrumentation, arrangement and vocals. This is so we can get a clear representation of the "vision" for the song - how it was envisaged to be presented and performed. And it saves us literally thousands of dollars that it would cost to produce otherwise!
