From the recording Darkness & Light
With this album, I was originally thinking of writing an album of Christian Worship songs, and had actually started writing a few. Then, in December 2025, Bondi happened, and my writing focus changed.
This song was actually a direct response to that terror attack, but I didn't want to just write something in anger, anguish or present some sort of verbal retribution at what had transpired. Whilst the 2nd verse indirectly references the event, the core message is not an eye for an eye.
This was written more from a perspective of defiance. Defiance that hatred will never win. The Jewish community was celebrating the "festival of light", so this song is a message that no matter what happens - no matter what darkness tries to overcome - while we are here, the strongest, most defiant weapon we have against darkness is love.
It is the ultimate resistance, and overcomer to what is thrown at us in darkness from the depths of hell.
Lyrics
Overcome this darkness
A candle burning bright
The flicker of a flame
That pierces through the night
Let love be your light
Let it shine
Let it shine
Let love be your light
Let it shine
Let it shine
Shine shine shine shine
Let it shine
Whoa let it shine
Shine shine shine shine
Let it shine
Whoa let it shine
No weapon formed in anger
Can overcome the love
Long arm from the depths of hell
Judgement from above
Let love be your light
Let it shine
Let it shine
Let love be your light
Let it shine
Let it shine
Shine shine shine shine
Let it shine
Whoa let it shine
Shine shine shine shine
Let it shine
Whoa let it shine
Let love be your light
Let it shine
Let it shine
Let love be your light
Let it shine
Let it shine
Whoa let it shine
Let it shine
Shine shine shine shine
Let it shine
