From the recording Darkness & Light
This track dovetails with "I Don't See The Light", but is aimed more that those in power - both politically and religiously - who claim God as their own, and deceive the masses with their false teaching and direction. Call it the trend of "Christian Nationalism".
Truth is, God is far, far bigger than what is represented by these false teachings. You can't tie Him down. You can't take His crown. The chance to repent is there, but one day the reckoning will come.
Lyrics
In the darkness of night,
Where’s your search for peace,
Quiet whispers of love and truth,
Tormented souls released.
You say you’ve got Him figured out
That God is on your side
A battle won, your victory done
But all I see is pride
God doesn't belong to you,
He doesn't belong to you
You could seek Him now if you would humbly bow,
But He doesn’t belong to you
God doesn't belong to you
He doesn't belong to you
You can’t tie Him down, never gonna take His crown
‘Cause He doesn’t belong to you oh no
He doesn’t belong to you whoa
He doesn't belong to you
He doesn’t belong to you
He is King Of Kings and Lord of Lords
He doesn’t bow down to your cultural wars
He is King Of Kings and Lord of Lords
He doesn’t bow down to your cultural wars
You built your walls way up so high,
Covered with a facade of fear
You shut the doors to the poor and weak
While drawing the rich ones near.
You set your sights on financial gain
Claiming God is on your side
The cards come down when it turns around
And you find there’s nowhere to hide
God doesn't belong ,
He doesn't belong to you
You could seek Him now if you would humbly bow,
But He doesn’t belong to you
God doesn't belong to you
He doesn't belong to you
You can’t tie Him down, never gonna take His crown
‘Cause He doesn’t belong to you oh no
He doesn’t belong to you whoa
He doesn't belong to you
He doesn’t belong to you
God doesn't belong to you
He doesn't belong to you
You can’t tie Him down, never gonna take His crown
‘Cause He doesn’t belong to you oh no
He doesn’t belong to you whoa
He doesn't belong to you
He doesn’t belong to you
He is King Of Kings and Lord of Lords
He doesn’t bow down to your cultural wars
He is King Of Kings and Lord of Lords
He doesn’t bow down to your cultural wars
He doesn’t belong to you
No no He doesn’t belong to you
You can’t tie Him down
You can’t take His crown
He doesn’t belong to you
There’s beauty in the struggle,
There’s grace for you after all,
Strip away your foolish pride
And you might even hear His call.
Patiently He's waiting
Arms still open wide
The shadow of the cross
Still bridges the divide
