From the recording Life Support
The lyric for this song was written back in 1998 about a friend of my mum's who passed away after a long and arduous battle with cancer. Insidious disease. I wrote it for her husband and gave it to him not long after she passed.
I revisited it and published it as a song in 2025, and it has since been requested and played at a number of funeral and memorial services, where it has provided comfort to families and friends as an accompanying musical soundtrack to audiovisual tributes as a part of their memorial services.
Lyrics
In her heart she turns towards the heavens
The pain and suffering slowly fade away
Her mind dreams of dancing with the angels
The journey ends but life begins today
Going Home
A place of unknown splendour
Angels singing tender
Streets are paved with Gold
Going Home
No longer in this fortress
Join in with Heaven’s chorus
Love’s mighty wings unfold
Going Home
This life is full of pain and tribulation
Sometimes it takes much more than we can bear
But in the end we know there’s something deeper
With hope placed in the Heavens and our hearts already there
Going Home
A place of unknown splendour
Angels singing tender
Streets are paved with Gold
Going Home
No longer in this fortress
Join in with Heaven’s chorus
Love’s mighty wings unfold
Going Home
Going Home
A place of unknown splendour
Angels singing tender
Streets are paved with Gold
Going Home
No longer in this fortress
Join in with Heaven’s chorus
Love’s mighty wings unfold
Going Home
Going home
Free from pain or sorrow
Going home
Mighty wings of love
Going home
Joining Heaven’s chorus
Going home
Streets are paved with gold
Going home
