From the recording I Think I Like You.
The lyric for this song was originally written in 2008, at a time when I was honestly struggling to find myself. I had spent a lot of my years trying to live up to other's expectations. And it was breaking me. Trying to live up to other people's perceptions on who I should be. Playing the game, and finding it harder and harder to escape the perceived constraints that increasingly tied me down. This song is about the struggle to escape those expectations, discover who I really was and what I was meant to be. It's often a difficult and painful process, but stick with it to find the answers you need to find. Love can actually be found in the darkest of places, and you can never judge a book by its cover. For me, there was only one way to find true freedom, and that was in the person of Jesus.
Lyrics
I never felt so alone as
When I spent my time with you
Tried hard to keep appearances
But I was a fool
I was a fool
Lived life through your expectations
Wearing someone else's shoes
I learned to play all your games but
I'd always lose
I always lose
Love can be found
In the darkest of places
Never judge a book
By what's on the faces
Let me out
Let me be
Let me go
Set me free
Let me out
Yeah Let me be
Let me go
Whoa Set me free
I need to be what I was meant to be
I need to be what I was meant to be
I need to be what I was meant to be
Only Your love is going to set me free
We're all looking for something
A love beyond compare
Someone who sees beyond our darkness
Yet somehow they care
Somehow they care
Love can be found
In the darkest of places
Never judge a book
By what's on the faces
Let me out
Let me be
Let me go
Set me free
Let me out
Yeah Let me be
Let me go
Whoa Set me free
I need to be what I was meant to be
I need to be what I was meant to be
Yeah I need to be what I was meant to be
Only Your love is going to set me free
Let me out
Yeah Let me be
Let me go
Only You can set me free
Only You can set me free
Jesus you're the One who sets me free
