From the recording Freshman 61
This one took a lot of revising before I was finally happy with the result. "I looked around and I saw your face... eyes make enquiries - am I so out of place?"
Love Is In Trouble comes from the angle of someone who may be already in a relationship (married even?), yet still has wandering eyes and finds the temptation and possibility of an affair almost too hard to resist. Long term relationships are hard work, and the road has many ups and downs along the way.
The end result of the lust for the affair is that love ends up being in trouble, and usually there are no winners from the damage caused. The bridge of the song adds some advice "Don’t have regrets for the things you might do. Love’s only in trouble when you stray from what’s true..."
Lyrics
Oooh
Love is in trouble
Oooh
Love is in trouble
I looked around
And I saw your face
Eyes make enquiries
Am I so out of place?
So good
So bad
You were the best time
I never had
So bad
So good
You got me wondering
If I really should
I think love is in trouble
I think love is in trouble
I think love is in trouble
Oooh
Love is in trouble
Oooh
Love is in trouble
How did we get here
Our feelings on sand
Washed by the tide
It’s getting so out of hand
Don’t have regrets
For the things you might do
Love’s only in trouble
When you stray from what’s true
So good
So bad
You were the best time
I never had
So bad
So good
You got me wondering
If I really should
I think love is in trouble
I think love is in trouble
I think love is in trouble
Oooh
Love is in trouble
Oooh
Love is in trouble
