From the recording Freshman 61
The lyrics for this song were written back in 2002 after a couple of really bad years on the job front. Redundancies and "staffing cutbacks" always started with the conversation that it was "nothing personal", but somehow my services were no longer required. Funny how the whole "nothing personal" conversation is somehow exactly that for the recipient... personal.
Lyrics
I gave my heart to you
You took part of my life
I pledged to you my loyalty
You returned it with a knife
Don’t tell me it’s not personal
When you walk me out the door
And you know it’s nothing personal
When you kick me to the floor
Son I know you might be fragile
And your heart’s a little bruised
But it’s truly nothing personal
It’s just that someone’s gotta lose
Spent so much time with you
Anything you need
You demanded everything
And then left me out to bleed
Don’t tell me it’s not personal
When you walk me out the door
And you know it’s nothing personal
When you kick me to the floor
Son I know you might be fragile
And your heart’s a little bruised
But it’s truly nothing personal
It’s just that someone’s gotta lose
Don’t tell me it’s not personal
When you walk me out the door
And you know it’s nothing personal
When you kick me to the floor
Son I know you might be fragile
And your heart’s a little bruised
But it’s truly nothing personal
It’s just that someone’s gotta lose
Don’t tell me it’s not personal
Don’t tell me it’s not personal
Don’t tell me it’s not personal
